How do I add a product?

A product is the thing you stock, such as "HDMI cable" or "Nitrile gloves". You need the Manage products permission, which Owners, Admins and Standard users have by default.
#Steps
Open Inventory and click New Product.
Type a Name. Names are unique in your workspace, and archived products keep theirs, so you can't reuse an archived product's name.
Add a Description if it helps, for example what it is and anything worth knowing before someone takes one.
Set a Family code if you have one. This is the product's code (SKU). Leave it blank and itemit makes one from the first 8 letters and numbers of the name, in capitals: the field shows the code it will use. On the web you can also click the QR code button to scan a barcode or QR code with your camera.
Choose One product, or Split into variants if you stock more than one version of it, such as sizes or colours. See "What are variants and when should I use them?"
Under Unit of Measurement, set the Base unit: what everything is counted in. It starts as Each, and fractions are fine, for example 20.5 Metres.
If it also arrives in a larger unit, switch on Also arrives in a larger unit and say how many base units are in one, for example a Box of 100 Pairs. This has to be a whole number. You can then record stock in boxes and itemit converts it for you.
Click Create product. You'll land on the new product's page.
A new product holds no stock yet. To add some, see "How do I add stock to a location?"
#Good to know
Once stock has moved, you can't change the product's base unit, or how many base units are in its larger unit, because that would change its history. You can still rename the larger unit.
Products don't have photos, categories or custom fields.
You can't import products or stock from a spreadsheet yet. If your items had quantities, the migration moves them across in one go: see "How do I move my existing item quantities into Inventory?"
