How do I turn on Inventory?
Written by Alex CY WongLast updated 5 October 2026
An Owner or Admin switches Inventory on for the whole workspace, in the itemit web app.
#Steps
Go to Settings › Feature Customisation.
Find New Inventory. It has a Beta badge and sits under the Inventory setting.
Switch it on.
If you open the Inventory tab before it's switched on, Owners and Admins see a Turn on New Inventory button that takes them to the setting. Everyone else sees "Ask a workspace admin to turn on New Inventory."
#What changes when you switch it on
The Inventory pages open, along with stock on bookings, the Inventory card on location profiles and the Product Inventories report.
The quantity on each item becomes read-only. Items that have a quantity still show it, so it can be moved across, and items without one no longer show the section.
If your items had quantities, Owners and Admins are asked to migrate them the first time they open Inventory. See "How do I move my existing item quantities into Inventory?"
#The two Inventory settings
Feature Customisation has two settings with similar names:
Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
Inventory | The old quantity section on each item |
New Inventory (Beta) | The new Inventory area, with products, locations and movements |
#Can I switch it off again?
Yes. If you switch New Inventory off, the Inventory pages close and the quantity on each item can be edited again.
#Who can use it once it's on?
Owners, Admins and Standard users can use Inventory straight away. Users with a custom role need the new Inventory permissions turned on for their role, and View/Scan/Comment and Scan only users can't see Inventory. See "Who can see and manage Inventory?"
