What are variants and when should I use them?

Variants are versions of one product that you count separately, such as sizes, colours or lengths. For example, a product "Nitrile gloves" could have the variants Small, Medium and Large.
#Do I need variants?
Most products don't. Choose One product when you create the product, and all its stock is counted together. It has a single variant, named Standard, behind the scenes.
Split a product into variants only when you need a separate count for each version, for example because you reorder sizes separately.
#Adding variants to a new product
On the New Product form, choose Split into variants.
Name the first variant, for example "Blue".
Click Add variant for each one you need.
If you need a second level, click Add sub-variant, for example a size under each colour. One level of sub-variants is allowed.
Stock and codes sit on the deepest level. Each variant gets its own code (SKU), made from the product's family code unless you type one. Codes are unique across your workspace.
#Adding a variant later
Open the product.
Set Group by to Variant.
Click Add variant, name it, and enter any stock it holds at each location.
If the product had no variants, its existing stock moves onto the first variant you add.
"Standard" is reserved for products without variants, so you can't give that name to the only variant of a product.
