What happens to stock when I archive or delete a location?

Written by Alex CY WongLast updated 5 October 2026

Stock held at a location you archive or delete isn't lost. It becomes Unallocated: it still counts in the product's On hand, but it can't be booked. Archiving a location does the same for every location inside it.

The archive and delete prompts warn you about this before you confirm.

You can't archive or delete a location while stock from it, or from a location inside it, is out on a booking or waiting to go out on one. Check that stock in, or take it off those bookings, first.

#How Unallocated stock shows

  • Under a product's figures as "( 5 Unallocated )"

  • As Unallocated rows on the product page

  • As "Unallocated" in the Location column of the Product Inventories report

Only users who can see the whole workspace see Unallocated stock.

#Before you archive or delete a location

Move its stock first. For each product held there, use Transfer to move the stock to another location. See "How do I move stock from one location to another?"
