Why can't I edit the quantity on my item any more?

Once your workspace switches on the new Inventory, the quantity on each item becomes read-only. Stock is now managed in Inventory, where it's tracked by product and location.

#What the item shows now

The Inventory section on an item profile shows one of three things:

  • If the item has been migrated, it says "Stock is managed in Inventory." with a View in Inventory link to the product that now holds the stock.

  • If it hasn't been migrated yet, Owners and Admins see the old quantity, read-only, with a link to migrate it on the Inventory page.

  • Everyone else sees the same read-only quantity, with a note that an admin can migrate it.

Items that never had a quantity no longer show the section at all.

#Things to know

  • The old quantity stays on the item for reference. It doesn't change when stock moves in Inventory, so the product's figures are the ones to trust.

  • The old report is still under Reports, now called Per-item Inventory. For current stock, use Reports › Product Inventories.

  • The custom role permission that used to be called "Manage inventory" is now Manage item quantities, and only covers the old quantities.

To move the quantities across, see "How do I move my existing item quantities into Inventory?"
